Founder and coordinator of the Panic & Respiration Laboratory and the Resistant Depression Clinic of the Psychiatric Institute – UFRJ. Visiting Professor at Università Deli Studi di Cagliari, Italy 2017-2019 and Università Degli Studi di Firenze – 2020. Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Psychiatry and Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro from 1998 to 2017 Editor-in-chief of the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry (Thomson Reuters Web of Science – impact factor = 2,440), Editor-in-chief of the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry (Scielo) and associate editor of numerous Brazilian and international scientific journals.
Researcher of Nosso Estado by FAPERJ for the period 2016-2019 and 2019-2022. Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1984), master’s degree (1989) and doctorate (1992) in Psychiatry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He held a post-doctorate at the Laboratory of Respiratory Physiology at the Carlos Chagas Filho Biophysics Institute during 1997 and 1998. He obtained the title of Professor of Psychiatry in 2004 by the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro. He has published more than 600 scientific articles, more than 80 book chapters, 10 published books and the organizer of 14 books.
He supervised 14 post-doctoral students, 32 doctoral theses and 33 master’s dissertations. He participated in several advisory committees of Medicine of CNPq, CAPES and other governmental agencies to support research. He has experience in the area of Medicine, with emphasis on Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology, acting mainly on the following themes: diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment, anxiety disorders, panic disorder, depression and bipolar disorder.
