Graduated in medicine from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1987), a master’s in psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and mental health from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1997), and a PhD in psychiatry and mental health from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2001). Post-Doctorate in Breathing Physiology at the Institute of Biophysics Carlos Chagas Filho at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2002–2003) He is currently Associate Professor III of the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the Fluminense Federal University-Niterói-RJ. Professor of the Graduate Program in Psychiatry and Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Expert Physician and Supervisor of the R4 Program in Forensic Psychiatry at IPUB-UFRJ Coordinator and researcher of the Teaching and Research Program in Forensic Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Coordinator of the IPUB-UFRJ Study Center. Former criminal expert at the Heitor Carrilho-RJ Psychiatric Custody and Treatment Hospital (2000–2011). Vice-Coordinator of the Forensic Psychiatry Department of the Brazilian Association of Psychiatry Supervisor of Master’s Dissertations and Doctoral Theses in Clinical and Forensic Psychiatry Lecturer and organizer of courses and events at several congresses, conferences, and national symposiums. Former associate editor of the journal Jornal Brasileiro de Psiquiatria. Author of 168 scientific articles in international and national journals. Reviewer for several journals, both national and international. He has experience in the area of medicine, with an emphasis on psychiatry, working mainly on the following subjects: anxiety and depression disorders, panic disorder, psychiatry in the general hospital, forensic psychiatry, violence, and mental disorders.

Coordinates the teaching and research program in forensic psychiatry.
