Biography
Valeska Marinho, MD, PhD, is a physician and psychiatrist specializing in psychogeriatrics. She graduated in medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), did a residency in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry at UFRJ, completed her master’s degree at UFRJ, and her doctorate at the Federal University of So Paulo. She works as a psychiatrist and psychogeriatrician and is currently the coordinator of the Alzheimer’s Disease Center (CDA) of the Institute of Psychiatry of UFRJ (IPUB), providing medical training to residents and clinical assistance to people living with dementia and their caregivers.
Valeska develops several care and training activities at UFRJ, acting as Coordinator of the CDA, Vice-Coordinator of the Specialization Course in Geriatric Neuropsychiatry, and Preceptor of Residency Programs during the Internship in Geriatric Psychiatry. Her interests include providing better assistance to PWD and their caregivers and exploring new technologies and treatments to address these conditions.
Valeska was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, RJ. She worked as a liaison psychiatrist at the Carlos Chagas State Hospital and as a general psychiatrist in the municipality of Duque de Caxias in the period that preceded her admission to UFRJ as a psychiatrist in 2003.
