The Geriatric Neuropsychiatry Laboratory aims to investigate and understand epidemiological, psychopathological, and clinical aspects of cognitive and behavioral disorders in the elderly throughout their aging process. We seek to develop and implement therapeutic interventions of various modalities aimed at patients and their families, bringing solutions that minimize the impact of the illness on a personal, family, social and economic level.

It is installed at the Center for Alzheimer’s Diseases and other Mental Disorders in Old Age (CDA), a national reference for the treatment of dementia. It has 10 offices for clinical and neuropsychological assessments, as well as facilities for drug and psychosocial interventions designed for the care of older adults with different psychiatric and neurological conditions. Instruments such as ACE-R, ADAS-cog, NPI, activity of daily living scales, and other cognitive and depression scales are used to assess cognition and psychiatric symptoms. It has a qualified multidisciplinary team (neurologists, psychiatrists, general practitioners, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, and psychologists), integrated into the research projects.
