The Laboratory was established in the space for the construction of Brazilian
psychiatry and neurology, where the former Hospício Pedro II was located. Its
objectives are: to examine the development of clinical neurosciences, in order
to provide a basis for their historical, technical and cultural contexts; to present
the origins of psychiatry and neurology, mainly after the renaissance, and the
debates about phrenology and the location of mental faculties; consider the
emergence of psychiatry and neurology as medical specialties and the
technological change in brain sciences; examine the evolution of Brazilian
psychiatry and neurology.
Year of formation of the laboratory – 2020;
 Available structure (special equipment for research, computers, etc.) – area
sharing with the Institute of Neurology Epilepsy program.
