Laboratory of Studies on Awareness in Neurodegenerative Diseases (LabCONS)

The Laboratory of Studies on Awareness in Neurodegenerative Diseases – LabCONS was created in 2010 by Prof. Marcia Cristina Nascimento Dourado. The main focus of the laboratory is the development of cutting edge research aiming to understand the cognitive and social and emotional functioning of people with neurodegenerative diseases as well as the impact on their caregivers’ health.

The laboratory’s mission is the training of new researchers and research leaders in this field. The laboratory’s studies are related to different areas of knowledge such as Cognitive Psychology and Geriatric Neuropsychiatry and have a great impact on the quality of life and health care of the neurodegenerative disorders, not only in the individual aspect but also in the social and legal ones. The laboratory has several partnerships with national and international research groups. The infrastructure is composed of a room for neuropsychological evaluation with computers for researchers.

Main studies: domains of awareness in dementia; social cognition in dementia; decision-making capacity in Alzheimer’s disease, cognitive, social and behavioral differences between young-onset and late-onset Alzheimer’s disease, quality of life in dementia; clinical profile of caregivers of people with young-onset and late-onset dementia.
