Marcia Cristina Nascimento Dourado, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in elderly care. She is a Researcher in Productivity at CNPq level 2 and a Permanent Professor at the Post-graduate Program of Psychiatry and Mental Health (PROPSAM).
Prof. Marcia Dourado is the coordinator of the Laboratory of Studies on Awareness in Neurodegenerative Diseases – LabCONS, created in 2010. The main focus of the laboratory is the development of cutting edge research aiming at understanding the cognitive and social and emotional functioning of people with neurodegenerative diseases as well as the impact on their caregivers’ health. Prof. Marcia Dourado’s research aims to improve the lives of older people and people who are living with dementia or other age-related neurodegenerative conditions by promoting well-being, preventing or reducing age-related disability, and improving rehabilitation and care. Her main interests include studies on quality of life, awareness, social cognition, decision-making capacity, cognitive, social and behavioral differences between young-onset and late-onset dementia and clinical profile of caregivers of people with young-onset and late-onset dementia.
Prof. Marcia Dourado is also the coordinator of the Specialization Course in Psychogeriatrics at IPUB/UFRJ aiming at training health professionals in the elderly’s care.
Prof. Marcia Dourado has published over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and is an Associate Editor for the Jornal Brasileiro de Psiquiatria (Annals of Brazilian Psychiatry) and Journal of Alzheimer’s disease.
Marcia Dourado completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. She received her Masters’ degree from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, PhD in Mental Health from Institute of Psychiatry of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and Postdoctoral fellowship from Institute of Psychiatry of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro funded by the partnership FAPERJ-CAPES in 2010.
