She holds a degree in medicine from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1985), a Master’s degree in psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and mental health from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1992), a PhD in psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and mental health from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1997), and was a postdoctoral fellow in the area of psychiatric epidemiology at Columbia University, New York (2008). She is currently a professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Forensic Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She was elected to the direction of the Institute of Psychiatry at UFRJ for the period between 2010 and 2014 and re-elected for a second term between 2014 and 2018. She has experience in medicine, with an emphasis on psychiatry, working mainly on the following topics: mental health, mental illness, psychosis, and deinstitutionalization. Since 2015, he has been coordinating the UFRJ mental health medicine internship, in which, together with colleagues, he has been building an innovative proposal for integration between the mental health internship and the family and community medicine internship, focusing on training general practitioners in mental health in primary health care. Within the need for specialized training for the management of the Institute of Psychiatry at UFRJ (director), she completed a specialization course in controllership and public management at FACC UFRJ in 2012.
