Graduated in medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 2002. He did his medical residency at the Institute of Psychiatry (IPUB) of UFRJ. In 2008, he completed his master’s degree in psychiatry at IPUB-UFRJ with a CAPES scholarship. He completed his doctorate in psychiatry at IPUB-UFRJ in 2012, having done a research internship abroad (sandwich doctorate) at Casa di Cura Villa San Benedetto (Italy) with a CAPES scholarship. In 2014, he completed his postdoctoral studies in psychiatry at IPUB-UFRJ with a CNPq scholarship. He is an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Medicine of UFRJ and is currently on leave to deal with private matters (leave without pay). He is a collaborating researcher at the Laboratory of Panic and Breathing (IPUB-UFRJ). Since 2019, he has been working in the Department of Psychiatry at Queen’s University as an Associate Professor. He is associate editor of Frontiers in Psychiatry. He belongs to the editorial boards of the journals Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry, Clinical Practice & Epidemiology in Mental Health, and Jornal Brasileiro de Psiquiatria. He has clinical, research, and teaching experience in the field of psychiatry.
