The Nucleus for Research in Public Mental Health Policies (NUPPSAM) develops research, teaching and extension on public mental health policies.
It has four research projects:
1-Evaluation of public mental health services within the Unified Health System (SUS) – develops subprojects: Mental Health in Small Municipalities; and “Situation of Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS) in the state of Rio de Janeiro”;
2-Family care partners – on participation, social inclusion, autonomy and protagonism of relatives of patients with severe mental disorders being followed up in the network of public health services (CAPS);
3-Network, Territory and Psychosocial Care for Children and Adolescents: sharing and intersectoral collaboration – developed in partnership with CAPSi CARIM-IPUB (Center for Psychosocial Care for Children and Adolescents), family clinics, family health support centers (NASF), reference centers for social assistance, schools and day care centers in two neighborhoods in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro;
4-Violence and psychosocial care – case study on mental health services in two areas with great social vulnerability in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The NUPPSAM is responsible for coordinating and carrying out an annual Specialization course in Psychosocial Care for Children and Adolescents (lato sensu); collaborates with the Common Module of the IPUB Specialization Courses and in the Medical and Multiprofessional Residency programs.
The Nucleus participates in ongoing training actions, health education and extension, in various training activities for professionals of the Unified Health System (SUS).
It has permanent institutional collaboration with the Lisbon Institute of Global Mental Health (LIGMH), with the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, with the Collective Health Program of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at UNICAMP, with 22 Psychosocial Care Centers in Rio de Janeiro, with the Institute of Social Medicine of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (IMS/UERJ), with the École de service social / Faculté des arts et des sciences / Université de Montréal, with the Center de recherche et des partages des savoirs – Inter-Actions.
